From the moment you wake up in the morning until the moment you go to sleep at night there are countless thoughts, ideas and beliefs which you somehow need to tackle to stay on your Golden Path in life.
The road to happiness isn't always an easy walk in the park is it?
At times it can feel very heavy to put one foot in front of the other, because you've somehow gotten to a place of overwhelm where you don't feel happy anymore.
You feel you don't know how to move forward, there's a sense of sadness and pain, but also stress and even some frustration while you're trying to figure out what's next.
You feel you want to do things differently, but you don't know where to start!
Talking to friends and family about it hasn't made a real difference, so you're ready to try something else, but what?
My suggestion would be to start looking at how you spend your time during the day:
- what do you do when you first wake up in the morning? Where does your attention go to?
- are you doing things because you like to do them, or because you feel you have to?
- what is one thing that you do each day that makes you feel happy?
Somehow we believe only big achievements are going to make us happy, but that sure does put a lot of pressure on yourself to achieve that every day, doesn't it?
I've been falling down and getting up many, many times in my life and continue to do so as well, but there are a few things I've managed to cherish every day, which help me feel happy and extremely grateful:
- starting my day with my family and having breakfast together (even though some days the mornings are a bit more chaotic than others, I very much enjoy those first moments of my day together with my husband and daughter at the breakfast table)
- my daily morning chat with my husband where we both get to express whatever we feel in that moment and also discuss our plans for the day
- the moment I get to pick up my daughter from school and see her smiling face when she runs to me with arms wide open for a big hug
But also small things like a great (iced) matcha latte, a fresh cup of rooibos tea, a bed that's nicely made or the smell of a clean house can really lift up my mood.
So, I'm curious about the small things that make your heart sing and forget about the stress there might be in your life at the moment. What makes you happy? Is there anything specific you do to lift up your own mood?
I'd love to hear from you!
Big hug,
Esther
